Many people have asked me how the new edition of Clear your Clutter with Feng Shui, published in the US in January 2016, differs from the original edition published seventeen years ago in 1999.
The short answer
The short answer is that while this book has stood the test of time very well and established itself as a classic in its field, my clutter clearing expertise has moved on tremendously since I first wrote it and the world has moved on too. I’ve therefore updated it to include other types of clutter that are more relevant to our modern lifestyle, and have made hundreds of clarifications and revisions to make the information and clutter clearing techniques contained in the book even more effective.
A longer answer
A longer answer is that 45 extra pages have been added to the new edition, which includes two brand new chapters on the important topics of Time Clutter and Changing Standpoint.
The new Time Clutter chapter has been added because this is one of the most challenging types of clutter confronting people today. It covers essential topics such as how to establish top down priorities in your life and how to overcome procrastination. These teachings lie at the heart of one of my most popular online courses, Zero Procrastination, which has been taken by thousands of people from over 50 countries around the world.
The new Changing Standpoint chapter is another vital addition to the book. It explains that one of the greatest obstacles to clutter clearing is feeling too attached to items to let them go, and how this can radically shift with a change in standpoint. It show you how to get a fresh perspective on your clutter and your life, and how to get what I call “the clutter clearing knack”.
Other new sections include how to handle information overload, how to deal with virtual clutter such as photos and emails, my top seven clutter clearing tips, and more.
The content of this new edition is very similar to the audio book edition published internationally in 2012 and the third edition published in paperback in the UK in 2013. The main difference is that this new US edition has been translated, sentence by sentence, into American (which, incidentally, took weeks of work!).
